The knife has no right to be called a knife if it isn’t
sharp. The sharpened edge of a knife is what attracts people towards it. It is
the ultimate beauty and the major highlight of all kinds of blades, knives and
swords. Though, we are not saying that each knife or sword has to be at its
highest peak of sharpness, since each one of them is taken into employment bearing in mind different
objectives and needs.
Having a sharpened edge of a blade, sword or a knife is quintessential for your own safety,
especially when you are carrying it specifically for protection or security
purposes. Making up for the lack of proper acuminated edge of a knife by
inserting more pressure to complete the cut you are making is a dangerous game
to play with the chances of injury and mishaps lurking in the shadows. The
reason being, if the blade of the knife is suddenly or abruptly shifted or
freed from the object you are cutting, the momentum of the force will end up
slashing your hand, leading to a catastrophic injury.
If your knife is sharpened with the utmost effectiveness, you
can mold it as you want and put them to work wherever you want them to. In a
nutshell, a knife will only liveup to the
expectations and showcase its highest performance when it is sharpened like it
should be.

holders and what role does it play in carrying out the task for which they are
employed. To sharpen those dull and mundane edges of your favorite knife, here
we have put together a step-by-step process for you to accomplish that.
Using a diamond stone or a whetstone is the best way to sharpen a knife
and the safest, since it does not involve a lot of pressure and skills to carry
out the entire sharpening task.
Step 1: First make sure the angle of the knife
you want to sharpen is correct, because going for the opposite angle other than
the one sharpened at default by the manufacturer
will be utmost time consuming and
exhausting. Steeper angles, that is between 17° - 20°is more durable than the shallower angles between 10° - 30°.
Step 2: Now before going all the way in,
lightly lubricate the whetstone or diamond stone with the dab of mineral oil,
so that the blade of the knife can smoothly glide over the surface of the
stone. This lubrication will also make sure that the shavings left behind the
steel of the knife are not clogging the tiny pores of the stone.
Note: You have to confirm with the manufacturer if you can oil the stone you are using for sharpening your knife, since not
all stones are composed in a way to handle the oil intake. The most common
stone that is used for this purpose is carborundum stone, which can be used wet
or dry, but is destroyed when oiled.
Start off with these steps. Buy a stone
and the oil needed for lubrication, the rest of the steps will be unfolded in
the next blog.
So stay tuned!
