What is a knife?

1)   Point- it is located at the end of the blade. It is used to pierce through the material and is the sharpest part of the knife.

2)   Blade- The part which is used to cut the stuff is called the blade. The material is usually crafted out of steel. It might also be titanium or plastic.

3)    Edge- The sharpened part of the blade. It is used for the majority of cutting work. The sharpness of the knife is decided by the edge.

4)    Tip- The front part of the edge is called the tip. It’s that part of the blade used for chopping and cutting.

5)   Spine- The blunt upper side of the blade is called the spine. The strength of the blade gives thickness of spine.

6)    Heel- The lower edge of the blade which is next to the bolster is called the heel. This is the widest pat of the blade. The tougher foods can be easily cut by the heel.

7)   Bolster- It is the raised area between the blade and the handle. It is the small space where the chef can add friction while working.

8)     Rivets- The handle parts of the tang can be fixed through the rivets.

9)     Tang- It is the uns harpened part of the blade which connects blade edge to the handle.

10   Butt- The end of the handle is called the butt. It is present at the bottom of the knife.
